BJP won Deoghar, defeating second-placed RJD by 2624 votes. It had also won Deoghar in the previous election, and retained the seat with a narrow margin.
Deoghar is in the Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand. It is also a constituency reserved for SC candidates, and is a predominantly urban constituency.
Narayan Das of the BJP received 41.0% of the vote, compared to 39.9% of the RJD's Suresh Paswan. BJP's voteshare fell by 2.6% from 2014, while RJD's voteshare increased by 17.7%.
The constituency saw a 2-cornered contest, with Bharatiya Janata Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal all getting a voteshare of 10% of more.
