JMM won Nala, defeating second-placed BJP by 3520 votes. It had also won Nala in the previous election, and retained the seat with a narrow margin.

Rabindra Nath Mahato of the JMM received 35.0% of the vote, compared to 33.0% of the BJP's Satyanand Jha. JMM's voteshare increased by 1.1% from 2014, while BJP's voteshare increased by 3.3%.
The constituency saw a 3-cornered contest, with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party of India all getting a voteshare of 10% of more.
